Saudis hailed for anonymously paying diya for expat driver

ARAB NEWS -

JEDDAH: Expatriates are all praises for two Saudi men with golden hearts who donated SR225,000 to pay the diya (blood money) for a Filipino driver convicted of running over an Indian man on a motorway accident in the Kingdom.
The kind gesture of the duo was greatly appreciated on the social media.
“The gesture has proved that our hosts are kind-hearted. I can’t imagine the same being done by my own people for a compatriot,” said Shuja-ul-Haq, an IT professional, in Jeddah.
Tabish, an Indian marketing manager, said he had no words of thanks for the two who did not even want to disclose their names.
The Filipino was driving a van on the road in the central Al-Rass town when he hit the pedestrian, killing him instantly, according to Sabq.org news site.
“Two Saudi men donated the diya money requested by the victim’s relatives. The court has just sent a letter to the prison to release the Filipino and consider the case closed,” the online newspaper said without identifying those two or saying why they paid the diya.
